Visa Cash App Racing Bulls unveiled their 2026 Formula One livery and introduced new driver, Arvid Lindblad this evening at a landmark event that transformed the iconic Central Michigan train station into the stage for the team’s latest chapter in Formula One.

Set against the majestic architecture of the historic location, the evening brought together VCARB, Ford Racing, and Oracle Red Bull Racing in a shared celebration of innovation, speed, and engineering excellence as they launch a partnership that has built the first ever Red Bull Ford Powertrains power unit.

To introduce VCARB’s on stage moment, Detroit’s very own, 7x BET Award-winning and multi-platinum superstar, Big Sean, introduced the team with a bespoke 60 second Red Bull rap. He also closed out the event with his top hits IDFWU and Bounce Back.

The event marked a strategic milestone for the team; highlighting where it’s heading, how it’s building and what fans can expect from the year ahead.

New Livery

Liam and Arvid were joined by CEO, Peter Bayer and Team Principal, Alan Permane as they unveiled the livery in front of 1,500 guests and fans worldwide on YouTube and Red Bull TV. After proving a fan favourite last season, the team chose to remain with its all-white look, enhanced by a subtle nod to its partnership with Ford. Sleek blue accents now trace the contours of the chassis, elevating the design with a sharper, more streamlined finish.

Peter Bayer, CEO of Visa Cash App Racing Bulls Formula One™ Team

“This launch captures the evolution of Visa Cash App Racing Bulls as a brand and as a racing team. From having Detroit as a backdrop representing our partnership with Ford, to the creators, fans and communities we’ve brought into this launch, everything reflects our ambition to push Formula One culture forward. We want to connect with the next generation in a way that feels authentic, bold and inclusive, and this moment marks the continuation of what we do both on and off the track.”

Alan Permane, Team Principal of Visa Cash App Racing Bulls Formula One™ Team

“2026 represents one of the biggest technical resets Formula One has seen, and partnering with Ford at the very start of this journey is hugely significant for us. The Red Bull Ford Powertrains project brings together world-class engineering, innovation and racing DNA, and it puts us in a strong position as the sport enters this new era. We have been working closely with the team and are proud of what the Red Bull family have developed. It’s something we’re excited to have in our race car as we hit the track in the coming weeks”.

Liam Lawson

“Launching the 2026 livery here in Detroit makes the moment feel even more special. The history of innovation in this place really reflects what this team is building for the future. The partnership between Ford and Red Bull, the energy around the team, and the ambition for what’s ahead make this an incredibly exciting time to be part of VCARB. I’m more motivated than ever to push forward and help turn that vision into results on track.”

Arvid Lindblad

“This moment is honestly surreal. To be introduced as a Formula One driver at an event like this, in such an iconic setting, is something I’ll never forget. The team’s vision, the new power unit, and the belief they’ve shown in me mean a lot. I’m ready to learn, to work, and to give everything on track as we start this new chapter together.”

At Red Bull’s 2026 Season Launch, held in Michigan Central Station, Red Bull pilot Martin Sonka produced a jaw-dropping stunt, as his plane tore the sheet off the car, unveiling a new yet familiar look, marking a return to the gloss finish first seen when the Team made its debut back in 2005.

22 years later, Formula One is about to enter a new era, as the sport’s technical regulations undergo a seismic change. This is also a defining moment for Oracle Red Bull Racing, because the opening round of the season in Melbourne will mark the official race debut of Red Bull Ford Powertrains, as the Team now builds both car and power unit under the same roof for the very first time.

To acknowledge this bold move, the RB22 will wear a livery inspired by Red Bull’s original look in F1. It harks back to a more classic Red Bull Racing presence, sharpening reflections, boosting contrast under the lights and making heritage elements of the new livery feel richer and more premium at speed.

The 2026 livery features a heritage white base, which the gloss paint will provide more depth and clarity to, allowing the iconic sun and bull logo to pop, with cleaner edges and stronger colour saturation. The shine adds motion, energy and reveals a new jacquard pattern through the body of the livery, which will run throughout Oracle Red Bull Racing’s 2026 look and feel.

In case you hadn’t guessed, the plane wasn’t actually inside Michigan Central Station! The crazy stunt actually took place at the Jindřichův Hradec Airport, in Czechia. The tail of the aircraft was fitted with an attachment to remove the cover from the car and, despite bad weather, Sonka pulled off the incredibly demanding aerobatic stunt known as the Cobra manoeuvre, which involves suddenly bringing the nose up almost vertically, but without gaining height, before resuming horizontal flight.

Laurent Mekies, CEO and Team Principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing

“Seeing the new livery for the first time is one of those special moments, it starts to make you feel excited about the new season. We are going to look spectacular on track! This is a new and significant era for the sport as a whole and for us as a team. We wanted our livery to reflect this, while also giving a nod to Red Bull Racing’s beginnings. This livery is designed to celebrate the spirit of our early days. In the year that an Oracle Red Bull Racing car will run a Red Bull Ford Powertrains PU for the first time, it felt only right to reflect some of our history in our livery.”

Max Verstappen, Oracle Red Bull Racing driver

“I love the new livery, it looks really nice and think it is going to stand out on track this year. The gloss is cool, it is a more retro look, the colour is really bold and blue, I really like it. Seeing it in real life was special and I was really impressed and surprised by how much of a change it is. The whole look brings back a lot of great memories of back in the day when I was just starting out in F1 and everything was new. I’m excited to drive a car with a completely different look. I’m not sure the mechanics will be happy about the time it’ll take to keep this clean! But, it’s going to look really slick and will be nice for everyone to see out on track.”

Isack Hadjar, Oracle Red Bull Racing driver

“There’s been some exciting moments and a lot of firsts for me in the last few months,  since I found out I would be driving for Oracle Red Bull Racing, and seeing the 2026 livery for the first time is up there with one of the best. Things are starting to feel a lot more real now and I can’t wait to drive with this livery on the car, I love the new, yet heritage, look, it’s super cool. It’s a new era for me and it’s pretty crazy that the Team and the whole sport are entering one at the same time too, it all feels very special. Being here in Detroit and seeing the livery in real life and the scale of what we have done to create a power unit is getting me hyped for this season. Now I just want to get into the RB22 with our own engine and go racing!”

Lego Group At F1 Grand Prix Of Miami

Ahead of the FORMULA 1 CRYPTO.COM MIAMI GRAND PRIX 2025 the twenty Formula 1 drivers had the chance to test their skills in fully drivable and team bespoke LEGO® big build cars that replaced the usual drivers parade truck. Each team had its own custom car in their own colours and liveries and drove the 5.4km track in front of all the fans ahead of the race.

The incredible vehicles are based on the LEGO F1 Speed Champions range unveiled late last year and were designed to celebrate Formula 1 and the LEGO Group’s ongoing, multi-year partnership. This special event in Miami was the first of many memorable moments for families at races this year.

The cars were created by a skilled team of 26 designers, engineers and LEGO builders, over 22,000 hours, in the LEGO Group’s Kladno factory, located in the Czech Republic. At a near 1:1 in scale with Formula 1 cars, each big build is made of nearly 400,000 LEGO bricks, weighing 1,000kg and capable of reaching speeds of 20 km/h, all while capturing the intricate and unique details of a Formula 1 car, including everything from sponsor logos to authentic Pirelli tyres.

Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer at Formula 1

“As a sport synonymous with innovation and pushing boundaries, it was amazing to see another first for our sport as the big builds made their way around the track in the hands of the best drivers in the world. Our partnership with the LEGO Group enables us to inject a lot of fun into the Grand Prix experience and engage new audiences, and we can’t wait to see what else we can dream up together.”

Julia Goldin, Chief Product & Marketing Officer of the LEGO Group

“At the LEGO Group, we are constantly striving to push the boundaries of what is possible. This latest challenge is a true testament to that, marking an extraordinary collaboration between the LEGO Group, Formula 1 and its 10 teams. We know that drivable big builds have an unparalleled ability to evoke excitement amongst fans and are delighted to see the reaction unveiling 10 at the same time has brought. We hope these unique creations reinforce that with imagination and a LEGO brick in-hand; creativity has limitless possibilities.”

Following the conclusion of the Miami event, all 10 LEGO big builds are now embarking on a global tour with appearances at future races. For more information, fans can visit LEGO.com/F1.

New season. New car. New line-up. Next chapter.

“We open an exciting new era in the story of our team and Mercedes-AMG motorsport in 2025. We are building on the incredible legacy of our heritage, and we can’t wait to go racing,” says Toto Wolff, Co-Owner, CEO, and Team Principal of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.

“Everyone at the team, in Brackley and Brixworth, has been hard at work over the winter. Last season was incredibly competitive on the track and, whilst we took several wins, we are all focused on challenging for victories more consistently. We have made gains in the off-season, but we will only know where we stand come the first race in Australia,” he continues.

“We have an exciting line-up to help us achieve our objectives. Both drivers have progressed through our junior programme and that is a vindication of our commitment to both supporting and developing talent.

“George has proven that he is one of the very best drivers on the grid, capable of competing for the Drivers’ Championship if we can give him a car capable of doing so. As the senior driver, he will help lead the team forward and support Kimi in his development.

“Kimi has all the necessary talent to achieve great things at the pinnacle of the sport, but this is a rookie season and there will inevitably be ups and downs. We’re looking forward to that journey together though and helping him develop over the course of the year,” Toto says.

New Line-Up

“I feel like last year was my strongest in F1,” says George Russell. “This coming season will be my seventh in the sport, and fourth with the works Mercedes team, and I’m working hard to improve year-on-year. As a team, we are incredibly motivated to improve on last season. There is a great energy within the factories at Brackley and Brixworth so I’m eager to take to the track.

“It’s also exciting having a new team-mate in Kimi this year. He’s incredibly quick and I think we will make a great partnership. Naturally, there is a lot for him to learn in his first season but I’m looking forward to helping him do that and working together to help push the team forward,” he continues.

Kimi has risen through the junior ranks quickly. Whilst he enters F1 at 18 years old, his youth has not stopped him from impressing at each rung on the single-seater ladder, with titles in F4, Formula Regional, and race wins in F2 last year.

“I’m excited to make my debut in F1 this year,” says the Italian. “It is a great opportunity, and I am very thankful to everyone at Mercedes for the faith and trust they’ve placed in me. I’ve been working hard over the winter to be as ready as I can possibly be and now, I can’t wait to get started.

“My focus is on continuing to learn, being consistent, and doing the best job I can for the team. I’m looking forward to working with George; we’re already gelling well and it’s great to have the support of someone who has come through the junior programme too. He is an incredibly strong driver and together I think we will make a great duo,” Kimi continues.

George and Kimi are ably backed up by Third Driver Valtteri Bottas and Reserve Driver Fred Vesti. 10-time Grand Prix winner Valtteri returns to the team having been part of five Constructors’ Championships for the Silver Arrows from 2017 to 2021, whilst Fred continues in his role from last year.

Valtteri said: “I couldn’t be happier to be back with Mercedes. It feels like I’m home. It’s been great to catch up with former colleagues and I’m really looking forward to helping the team both on and off the track. As Third Driver, I will be at every Grand Prix providing support and that extra set of eyes. I will also be at the factory helping develop the car in the simulator too. I can’t wait to get started.”

Fred added: “It’s great to return for another year as Reserve Driver. I’ve been a part of the Mercedes team for several years now and it really is my family. I’m looking forward to working with George, Kimi, Valtteri, and the wider team to help develop the car and push the team forward.”

Chassis and PU

The 2025 season marks the fourth season of the current chassis regulations, and the 12th of the existing Power Unit regulations. For 2026, a major opportunity shines on the horizon.

“Being the fourth year of these regulations on the chassis side, the cars are in the more mature phase. Big gains in lap time are harder to come by but we’ve been concentrating on making improvements in the areas that held us back last year,” explains Technical Director, James Allison.

“Our primary focus has been on dialling out the W15’s slight reluctance to turn in slow corners, along with the imbalance in tyre temperatures that made the car inconsistent from session to session,” he continues.

That has led to changes to every aerodynamic surface, new front suspension, and further changes under the skin of the W16 to remedy some of the more challenging characteristics of its predecessor. James adds: “We are pleased with our progress over the winter and we’re looking forward to finding out where we stack up against everyone else.”

Power Unit development meanwhile remains frozen, but this doesn’t mean that work stops, as power unit boss Hywel Thomas, Managing Director of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains explains: “We have been looking at reliability updates, and some calibration upgrades, to deliver robustness, squeeze the last little bits of performance out of the Power Unit and give ourselves the best opportunity this season. We’ve made good progress and hopefully that can add performance on track.”

With a major reset in the regulations for next year, 2025 acts as the swansong for the current generation of Power Units. “It’s definitely the end of an era,” explains Hywel. “The success we have achieved since 2014 was only possible through the hard work of a huge group of talented people. It makes you proud to have been a part of that team. We would love to end such an incredible chapter by adding to our success as the Mercedes works team, and everyone is focused on doing that.”

The size of the rules change for 2026 means that work on the next generation Power Unit has been ongoing at Brixworth for several years. Whilst at Brackley, the team is now free to begin work on developing next year’s car. That means that 2025 will be a fine balancing act.

“It’s one of the largest regulation changes in the sport’s history,” says James Allison. “Every team must decide where to spend their resource to both compete on track this year and set themselves up for 2026 and beyond. We’re excited for that challenge and working hand-in-hand between Brackley and Brixworth to be as competitive as we can be this year and build for success next year.”

Hywel Thomas adds: “The 2026 regulation change is a big challenge but one that we’re enjoying. It’s an exciting evolution, particularly the work on sustainable fuels. Our partnership with PETRONAS, and their expertise, is key for that area. It’s a huge project and we’re working hard to maximise the opportunity in front of us.”

Expectations

“It is going to be a highly competitive season,” concludes Toto Wolff. “We saw last year just how close the field was. You couldn’t say race-to-race who would be at the front, and I expect this year to be even closer. We will have to be at our very best if we want to challenge for championships this season.”

“It will be a fiercely fought championship from the off,” echoes James Allison. “At this stage of the regulations, the cars are converging in terms of performance. There will be multiple winners, and it’s possible that we will see even more teams than the four that scored victories last year taking to the top step of the podium.”

“Given where we are in this set of regulations, lap time gains are small,” continues Hywel Thomas. “There is still the opportunity to find little bits and that can be the difference come Saturday and Sunday. You could see last year, particularly in qualifying, just how close some of the teams were at the front. Finding those 10 or 20 milliseconds is crucial; it can be the difference between pole or the second or third row. We will continue chasing those gains and hopefully be in the fight for the championships come Abu Dhabi.”

From the team’s early days with founder Bruce McLaren to the modern era with Lando Norris, McLaren has been home to some of Formula 1’s most iconic and successful drivers.

Here, we count down the Top 10 McLaren drivers based on their number of race starts with the team, highlighting their achievements and contributions to the Woking-based outfit’s rich history.

Hulme, Denis, Mclaren M7a 1969 08 01
Position 10 – Danny Hulme (85 race starts)

Denny Hulme, a New Zealand racing legend, joined McLaren in 1968 and remained with the team until his retirement in 1974, amassing 85 race starts and securing his place as one of McLaren’s most enduring early drivers. Fresh off his 1967 World Championship with Brabham, Hulme brought experience and grit to McLaren, achieving eight of his ten career victories during this period, including standout wins at the 1968 Italian and Canadian Grands Prix. His tenure saw consistent points finishes, with a notable third-place championship result in 1968, though he never clinched the title with McLaren despite strong performances. Hulme’s time at McLaren, under Bruce McLaren’s leadership, was marked by reliability—starting all but one race—and a competitive spirit, culminating in 12 podiums and a legacy as a key figure in the team’s formative years, retiring after the 1974 US Grand Prix following Bruce McLaren’s tragic death in 1970.

Position 9 - Kimi Raikkonen (87 race starts) Kimi Raikkonen, the Finnish "Iceman," raced for McLaren from 2002 to 2006, accumulating 87 starts and establishing himself as a formidable talent during a highly competitive era of Formula 1. Joining from Sauber, he quickly adapted, securing his first career victory at the 2003 Malaysian Grand Prix and finishing runner-up in the Drivers' Championship that year, just two points shy of Michael Schumacher, despite McLaren’s car often lacking the pace of Ferrari. Raikkonen’s tenure included nine wins and 28 podiums, showcasing his speed and cool-headedness, though reliability issues—such as engine failures in 2006—often hampered his title chances. His standout 2005 season saw seven wins, yet he finished second again due to mechanical setbacks, before departing for Ferrari in 2007, leaving McLaren with a legacy of raw talent and a near-miss at the championship. Position 8 - Fernando Alonso (94 race starts) Fernando Alonso, the Spanish double world champion, raced for McLaren across two stints—2007 and 2015–2018—totalling 94 starts in a tenure marked by brilliance and turbulence. Joining in 2007 fresh off titles with Renault, he won four races, including Monaco, and finished third in the championship, but his season was overshadowed by a fierce rivalry with teammate Lewis Hamilton, prompting his exit after one year. Returning in 2015 during McLaren’s struggling Honda era, Alonso endured three winless seasons, managing only occasional points finishes with uncompetitive cars. His McLaren legacy reflects a mix of standout performances and frustration, retiring from F1 in 2018 before later returning with Alpine. Image via ivi7g/Deposit Photos

Ayrton Senna Da Silva
Position 7 – Ayrton Senna (96 race starts)

Ayrton Senna, the Brazilian racing icon, drove for McLaren from 1988 to 1993, amassing 96 starts and cementing his legend with three world championships and 35 of his 41 career victories. Joining from Lotus, he dominated 1988, winning 8 races—including a masterful Monaco performance—to claim his first title, often clashing with teammate Alain Prost in one of F1’s greatest rivalries. Senna’s tenure peaked with back-to-back titles in 1990 and 1991, highlighted by wins like Japan 1990, though his final 1993 season saw five victories but a second-place finish as McLaren’s Ford engine couldn’t match Williams. His time at McLaren, ending before his 1994 move to Williams, remains a golden era of skill, charisma, and relentless pursuit of perfection.

Prostalain Mclarenmp4 2b 1985
Position 6 – Alain Prost (107 race starts)

Alain Prost, the French “Professor,” competed for McLaren across two spells—1980 and 1984–1989—totalling 107 starts and delivering three of his four world championships with surgical precision. After a brief 1980 debut cut short by injury, he returned in 1984, winning 7 races each in 1984 and 1985 to secure titles, and again in 1988 took 7 wins, though he lost that year’s points battle to teammate Senna. Prost’s McLaren years featured 30 victories, including classics like Monaco 1984, and a fierce 1989 rivalry with Senna, ending with his third championship and exit to Ferrari after a controversial clash in Japan. His tenure showcased tactical brilliance and consistency, shaping McLaren’s mid-80s dominance.

Position 5 – Lewis Hamilton (110 race starts)

Lewis Hamilton, the British prodigy, launched his F1 career with McLaren from 2007 to 2012, racking up 110 starts and clinching his first world championship in 2008. Debuting in 2007, he stunned with 9 podiums in his first 9 races, finishing second in the championship, then won 5 races in 2008 to claim the title at age 23, for McLaren’s first title since 1998. His tenure included 21 victories, like the wet-weather masterclass at Silverstone 2008, though later years saw runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2012 as McLaren lagged behind Red Bull. Hamilton’s McLaren era, ending with his 2013 Mercedes move, laid the foundation for his record-breaking career.

Lando Norris, Mclaren F1 Team, 1st Position, Lifts The Winners Trophy
Position 4 – Lando Norris (128 race starts)

Lando Norris, the young British talent, has driven for McLaren since 2019, accumulating 128 starts by the end of the 2024 season and emerging as a cornerstone of the team’s modern resurgence. Debuting at 19, he scored points in his first season, then broke through with his maiden win at Miami 2024, adding multiple podiums, showcasing his pace and maturity. Norris’s tenure has coincided with McLaren’s climb back to competitiveness, where the team won the 2024 Constructor’s Championship. Norris is poised to climb into the #1 slot during the 2025 F1 season.

Mika Hakkinen (mclaren Mercedes)
Position 3 – Mika Hakkinen (131 race starts)

Mika Hakkinen, the Finnish “Flying Finn,” raced for McLaren from 1993 to 2001, totalling 131 starts and securing back-to-back world championships in 1998 and 1999. After a test role in 1993, he became a full-time driver, breaking through with his first win at Jerez in 1997, then dominated 1998 with 8 victories and 1999 with 5, edging Michael Schumacher. His tenure featured 20 wins and 36 podiums, marked by speed and resilience, though injuries and reliability woes—like 2000’s late-season retirements—curtailed further titles. Hakkinen retired in 2001, leaving McLaren as a two-time champion and fan favourite.

Position 2 – Jenson Button (136 race starts)

Jenson Button, the smooth-driving Brit, raced for McLaren from 2010 to 2016, logging 136 starts and blending consistency with flair after his 2009 title with Brawn GP. His McLaren debut saw instant success. Button finished second in the 2011 championship behind Vettel, often outscoring teammate Hamilton, but later seasons yielded no wins as McLaren’s form dipped with Honda engines in 2015–2016. Retiring from F1 in 2016, his tenure added 8 victories, 27 podiums, and a polished legacy to McLaren’s roster.

Coulthard 2004 Canada
Position 1 – David Coulthard (150 race starts)

David Coulthard, the dependable Scotsman, raced for McLaren from 1996 to 2004, leading the team’s all-time starts with 150 and delivering steady results across nine seasons. Joining from Williams, he won 13 races, including Monaco 2000 and 2002, and finished second in the 2001 championship, supporting teammate Hakkinen’s title bids while stepping up when needed. Coulthard’s tenure included 51 podiums, though he never challenged for the title in the peak Schumacher years, often playing a reliable number-two role. His long McLaren stint, ending in 2004, bridged the team’s late-90s success to its early-2000s transition.

F1 75 Live Show

Building on the Team’s iconic look, 2025’s livery is a redefined design. Adorned with the Red Bull logo, the blue, red and yellow palette that has carried Max to four World Drivers’ Championships has become a classic on and off track. Oracle Red Bull Racing have stuck with tradition when it comes to the 2025 livery, which will take over the RB21 for the upcoming Formula One campaign.

2025 sees Oracle Red Bull Racing welcome multiple new Partners to the Team, and in turn the livery. F1 fans will spot Gate.io on the rear wing and nose of the RB21, while 1Password can now be seen on the halo, chassis and in an F1 first, the steering wheel on start-up. There are also additions, in the form of new Team Partner AvaTrade, eyewear partner Maui Jim and Neat, who chose to make their debut F1 partnership with Oracle Red Bull Racing. The 2025 livery will also see the additions of current Team Partners AT&T and Hexagon onto the bodywork of the RB21, building on their contribution to the Team’s success.

A star-studded event at London’s 02 Arena saw F1’s 75th anniversary season launched in front of 15,000 fans and millions watching worldwide.

The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team launched its 2025 livery in a spectacular segment featuring a live pit stop demonstration, and words from Toto Wolff, George Russell, and Kimi Antonelli.

Toto Wolff said: “What an incredible evening and an event from F1. The sport continues to set new milestones with such occasions, and I hope the thousands watching in the arena, and everyone tuning in at home, thoroughly enjoyed it.

“Mercedes has a long history in motorsport and it’s an unbelievable honour to carry that baton forward. We start to write the next chapter in our story this year with George and Kimi, and we’re excited to get going.”

George Russell commented: “Tonight has been an incredible event. It’s amazing to see so many fans here and sharing the love of our sport. F1 continues to push the boundaries and set the bar even higher and it’s so great to see. We’ve got a super exciting season ahead and I can’t wait to get started. The new livery looks great and both Kimi and I will be pushing hard to achieve success on track.”

Kimi Antonelli added: “It’s been incredible to see so many fans here in London tonight. This is a very special way to start my first season in F1. It’s a privilege to represent Mercedes and be racing for the works team. It’s a great opportunity; I’ve been working hard over the winter to be as ready as possible and I’m excited to head to Bahrain and get out on track.”

The team’s 2025 challenger, the Mercedes-AMG F1 W16 E Performance, will be revealed on 24th February ahead of its first on-track running the next day in Bahrain.

This evening’s grand F1 75 launch event at London’s O2 Arena can be seen as the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season and Scuderia Ferrari HP presented the new car’s livery, watched by CEO Benedetto Vigna, Team Principal, Fred Vasseur and the drivers, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, as well representatives of the team’s partners. Tomorrow, the SF-25 is due to make its track debut behind closed doors at Fiorano, running up to 200 kilometres in its first shakedown, shortly before heading to Bahrain for the one and only pre-season test session, from 26 to 28 February.

Continuity and changes. The car’s name, the SF-25 follows the pattern of the past two years and underlines the stability of the regulations. It is the 71st Formula 1 car built by Ferrari, the fourth of the second generation of ground effect cars introduced in 2022. However, it is a completely new car, utilising different technical solutions to those adopted in the past. The most visible change initiated by the Loic Serra-led team is without a doubt that made to the front suspension that switches from a pushrod to a pull rod design. The thinking behind this change in architecture was to clean up the airflow around the car, while also giving greater scope for further aero development, which had pretty much been exhausted with the previous iteration. The car is an evolution from every aspect when compared to last year’s, which provided a good starting point. It was designed with the aim of maximising the development potential of the car, in a season when, thanks to the long stability of the regulations now in their final year, one can expect the field to be extremely evenly matched with just thousandths of a second in lap time making the difference.

Optimisation. With the regulations relating to its architecture being frozen since 2022, the Power Unit features no technical innovations. However, this does not mean there was no margin for further improvement. The stability of the regulations also meant that the focus moved towards a further optimisation of power unit use strategy in an effort to tailor it to suit every single race weekend situation and extract the maximum potential from its given performance. Ensuring reliability is a never-ending job, and over the winter, despite a further reduction in the permitted hours of test bench running, work was carried out to analyse and review each process and the lessons learned from the 2024 season, to ensure reliability in all areas.

Colours and details. As was evident in London this evening, the livery has also changed significantly, presenting a perfect mix of past, present and future, with a declaration of style, power and tradition. The darker shade of 2025 Racing Red with its matte finish, evokes decades of racing, taking its inspiration from the intense tones of the early days of the Scuderia, with an angled, bold white band standing out as a distinctive feature on the car, symbolising dynamism and a vision that looks to the future. In amongst the main areas are details that balance tradition with modernity, with subtle thin, glossy red and white stripes which recall the sartorial care applied to the clothing and cars that Ferrari produces every day. The contrast between white and red is a tribute to the marque’s history and identity, and to the continuous evolution of Ferrari style, a manifesto for refined sportiness and timeless aesthetics. The glossy detail on the bodywork is in contrast to the matte detailing on gloss finish of the 499 Hypercar, which competes in the World Endurance Championship, underlining the Maranello DNA shared by these two cars, competing in the two most important motor racing championships. The wheel rims are also entirely red, while the numbers on Charles’ and Lewis’ cars are white, in Ferrari’s official font, Ferrari Sans.

Shakedown then testing. As already mentioned, following the Fiorano shakedown, the SF-25 will then head for Bahrain and the only official pre-season test, before the racing gets underway in Australia on 16 March.

Fred Vasseur, Team Principal

“The launch of this new car is a very exciting and proud moment for everyone in the team. Months of hard work have gone into this SF-25 thanks to the dedicated efforts of everyone in the team at Maranello and we are excited to see the fruit of our labours take shape and prepare to take to the track. Last season, we fought for the Constructors’ title to the very last corner and now we are determined to build on that, starting from that solid base with the aim of winning both titles. We have a new driver line-up with Lewis joining Charles and we feel ready as a team to take the extra step required to be the best. We are aware of the challenges that await us, but we are ready to give it our all, to be competitive at the highest level, knowing we can also rely on the support and enthusiasm of our fans, who always inspire us. Now it’s time to concentrate on the job in hand and let the track do the talking. I can’t wait for this season to start.”

Loic Serra, Technical Director Chassis

“The SF-25 is an evolution of the SF-24, which gave us an excellent starting point to work from. Having said that, we have worked hard, changing 99% of the car, evolving its architecture to maximise performance. The pull rod front suspension is only the most obvious of many significant changes. We can expect the coming season to be very closely contested, with outcomes decided by thousandths of a second. We are all set to give it our best shot to find those gains, even the marginal ones, that can make the difference. We are looking forward to being competitive right from the very first race.”

Enrico Gualtieri, Technical Director PU

“This moment is the culmination of weeks of hard work and determination and we are very enthusiastic about the coming season. The 2025 power unit has been developed in the context of regulations that have been frozen since 2022, but we have remained as fully committed as ever to extracting the maximum from each of its components. We have worked hard on all control strategies and procedures to ensure that every component can function at every track and event. Reliability remains a top priority and we have continued to focus on preparation, quality and consistency so that we can perform at the highest level on track. The 2025 season presents some unique challenges but we are ready to face them, having paid obsessive attention to every detail. We are confident that the SF-25 will allow us to achieve our goals.”

Charles Leclerc #16

“I’m really excited about the launch of the SF-25. Every year we push hard to improve and the whole team has been working flat out for months now. Last season saw a really tight fight and we came very close to taking the title. This year, our goal is clear: we want to win the Constructors’ World Championship and my personal target is to win the Drivers’ Title. Since Lewis joined the team we have already been working very closely together and I believe that his experience and approach will prove to be a source of inspiration for me. I am physically and mentally more than ready to face this new season and I can’t wait to get on track to do everything I can to put Scuderia Ferrari HP back on top.”

Lewis Hamilton #44

“My first few weeks have been absolutely incredible and I’ve seen first-hand the passion and dedication of the entire team, so the unveiling today of my first-ever Scuderia Ferrari HP car is really exciting. So much hard work has gone into preparing for the season ahead and we couldn’t be more hungry or determined to succeed. I came into the year with so much anticipation for this new chapter, and I’m even more energised now by the spirit and belief of everyone I’ve met over the past month. I couldn’t be prouder to be on this journey with them. I can’t wait to get out on track with Charles, push each other forward and do everything we can to take the team to the top.”

With the livery reveals for the 2025 F1 season underway, we have taken a walk down memory lane to count down the top five worst liveries to ever grace an F1 car…

Rubens Barrichello 2007 Malaysia
#5 – Honda RA107 – The Honda RA107, a car that aimed to make a bold statement about environmental awareness, ultimately proved that good intentions don’t always translate into success on the track or in the court of public opinion. With its unique livery depicting planet Earth against the black backdrop of space, the RA107 certainly stood out from the crowd, but not always for the right reasons.

While Honda’s decision to forego traditional sponsorship branding in favor of an eco-friendly message was commendable, the execution left much to be desired. The “Earth Car” livery, as it was dubbed by some, came across as gimmicky and failed to resonate with fans who were more interested in the car’s performance than its appearance.

Speaking of performance, the RA107 struggled to make an impact on the track. Despite the best efforts of drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, the car’s best result was a modest 5th place at the Chinese Grand Prix. The team finished a disappointing 8th in the constructors’ championship, a far cry from the success Honda had hoped for when they returned to Formula One as a constructor.

The RA107’s lackluster showing was all the more frustrating given the hype surrounding its launch. The unveiling of the car’s final livery at the Natural History Museum in London was meant to be a grand spectacle, but instead, it felt like a missed opportunity. The car’s paint scheme, while well-intentioned, failed to capture the imagination of the public and instead became the subject of ridicule and criticism.

In the end, the Honda RA107 serves as a cautionary tale for teams looking to make a statement with their livery. While it’s admirable to promote important causes like environmental awareness, it’s equally important to ensure that the message is delivered in a way that resonates with fans and doesn’t detract from the car’s on-track performance. The RA107’s failure to do either ultimately sealed its fate as one of the worst liveries in Formula One history. (image via Wikipedia)
Jenson Button 2015 Malaysia Fp2 1
#4 – McLaren MP4-30 – The McLaren MP4-30, a car that will live in infamy, is a prime example of how even the most storied teams in Formula One can miss the mark. With its underwhelming black and silver chrome livery, accented by a touch of red trim, the MP4-30 failed to capture the imagination of fans and instead drew criticism for its uncanny resemblance to the color scheme of McLaren’s former engine supplier, Mercedes-Benz.

As if the lackluster livery wasn’t enough, the MP4-30’s on-track performance was nothing short of disastrous. Despite boasting a driver lineup that included former World Champions Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button, the car struggled to keep pace with its rivals, plagued by a series of technical issues and retirements that left the team languishing in ninth place in the World Constructors’ Championship.

The car’s distinctive “size zero” design, with its sharply tapered rear end, was meant to give McLaren an edge over the competition. However, the decision to design the Honda engine to operate at higher temperatures backfired spectacularly, leading to a string of reliability issues that hampered the team’s progress throughout the season.

Even a mid-season livery change, which saw the team abandon the unpopular silver accents in favor of a predominantly black and red color scheme, failed to turn the tide for McLaren. The MP4-30’s best result was a mere fifth-place finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix, a far cry from the team’s glorious past successes.

In the end, the McLaren MP4-30 served as a stark reminder that even the most experienced teams can fall victim to poor design choices and communication breakdowns. The car’s failings were a source of frustration for drivers and fans alike, making the 2015 season one that McLaren would rather forget. (image via Wikipedia)
Vitantonio Liuzzi 2011 Malaysia Qualify
#3 – Hispania F111 – The Hispania F111, a car that epitomized the struggles of a backmarker team trying to find its footing in the hyper-competitive world of Formula One, will be remembered more for its comical livery than its on-track performance. In a desperate attempt to attract sponsors, the team resorted to plastering the car with fake sponsor stickers, featuring cringe-worthy messages like “This could be you” and “This is a cool spot.”

The car’s development was a comedy of errors from the start. A failed partnership with Toyota Racing left the team scrambling to incorporate elements of the abandoned TF110 project into their own design. The result was a car that was essentially a rehashed version of its underwhelming predecessor, the Hispania F110.

To make matters worse, the team’s financial woes meant that the F111 wasn’t even unveiled until the final pre-season test in Barcelona, leaving drivers Narain Karthikeyan, Vitantonio Liuzzi, and Daniel Ricciardo with virtually no time to familiarize themselves with the car before the season began.

The team’s decision to hire Hollywood concept vehicle designer Daniel Simon to create the car’s livery was a bizarre choice that only served to highlight the F111’s shortcomings. While Simon’s work on the film Tron: Legacy was undoubtedly impressive, his skills didn’t translate to the world of Formula One. The resulting livery was a garish mess that did little to distract from the car’s lack of pace and reliability.

On the track, the F111 was a consistent backmarker, rarely threatening to score points or challenge the midfield. The car’s lack of testing and development was evident in its poor handling and frequent mechanical failures, leaving its drivers frustrated and demoralized.

In the end, the Hispania F111 will go down as one of the worst Formula One cars of the modern era. Its fake sponsor stickers and laughable livery only highlighted the team’s desperation and lack of direction, making it a cautionary tale for any aspiring entrants into the world of Formula One. Arrows A20 Historacing Festival Lédenon 2012
#2 – Arrows A20 – The Arrows A20, a car that will forever be remembered for its bizarre “half and half” livery, is a prime example of a team struggling to keep up with the fierce competition in Formula One. The car’s design, a lackluster update of the already uncompetitive A19, was hampered by financial woes and the departure of key personnel like John Barnard, leaving Mike Coughlan to pick up the pieces.

The team’s engine supplier, Brian Hart, found himself overwhelmed by the demands of modern F1, and his underpowered engines only served to further hinder the A20’s performance. The car’s lack of pace and reliability became painfully evident as the season progressed, with the team often finding itself outqualified by the lowly Minardi squad.

The A20’s only glimmer of hope came in the season opener at Melbourne, where Pedro de la Rosa, a Spanish rookie with significant backing from Repsol, managed to score a point on his debut with a sixth-place finish. His teammate, Japan’s Toranosuke Takagi, who had moved from the now-defunct Tyrrell team, finished just behind him in seventh. However, this would prove to be the team’s only point of the season, and it was only the poor finishing record of newcomers BAR that saved Arrows from the ignominy of finishing last in the Constructors’ standings.

Despite de la Rosa’s promising performances and positive comments about the car’s handling, the A20’s shortcomings were too much to overcome. Takagi, hampered by communication issues due to his lack of English skills, struggled throughout the season and was eventually replaced by Jos Verstappen for the following year.

In the end, the Arrows A20, with its disjointed livery and lackluster performance, serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by smaller teams in the cutthroat world of Formula One. The car’s failure to compete at the highest level ultimately sealed its fate as one of the worst liveries and overall packages in the sport’s history. (image via Wikipedia)

#1 – BAR 01 – The BAR 01, the product of British American Racing’s ambitious debut into Formula One, will forever be remembered as a case study in how not to design a livery. The team’s desire to run different branding on each car – Lucky Strike for Jacques Villeneuve and 555 for Ricardo Zonta – quickly ran afoul of the FIA’s regulations, which required both cars to have identical liveries.

The resulting “quick-fix” design was a visual catastrophe, with a garish “zip” running down the center of the car, splitting the Lucky Strike and 555 branding into left and right halves. The rear wing was equally compromised, with 555 on the forward-facing side and Lucky Strike on the backward-facing side. The silver background for minor sponsors and adverts only added to the chaotic and disjointed appearance of the livery.

To make matters worse, the team’s mechanics were forced to wear suits that were half Lucky Strike and half 555, while the drivers had different suits and helmets depending on their assigned branding. The livery modifications for races where tobacco advertising was prohibited – with 555 replaced by triple crescent moons and Lucky Strike blocked out or replaced with “Run Free” – only served to further highlight the absurdity of the design.

On the track, the BAR 01’s performance was just as disappointing as its livery. Despite the pedigree of drivers Jacques Villeneuve and Ricardo Zonta, and the technical expertise of Reynard Motorsports, the car was plagued by reliability issues. Villeneuve alone failed to finish the first eleven races of the season, and the team ended up last in the Constructors’ Championship with no points, behind even the smallest teams like Minardi, Arrows, and Sauber.

The BAR 01’s disastrous debut season and its infamous “zip” livery serve as a cautionary tale for any team entering Formula One. The importance of adhering to regulations, creating a cohesive and visually appealing design, and prioritizing reliability over flashy promises cannot be overstated. While the team would eventually abandon the dual livery approach and find some success in later years, the memory of the BAR 01 and its ill-fated “zip” will forever be etched in the annals of Formula One history as one of the worst liveries and overall packages ever to grace the grid. With the livery reveals for the 2025 F1 season underway, we have taken a walk down memory lane to count down the top five most iconic and unforgettable liveries to ever grace the Grand Prix circuits…

The John Player Special (JPS) livery, a striking black and gold design, graced the Lotus Formula One cars from 1972 to 1986, creating one of the most recognizable and beloved looks in the sport's history. The partnership between Lotus and tobacco company John Player & Sons began with the Lotus 72 in 1972, a car that would go on to win three constructor's championships and two drivers' championships during the JPS era. Over the course of 15 years, the JPS livery adorned 15 different Lotus cars. The livery became so iconic that it often overshadowed the cars themselves, cementing its place in Formula One lore. Two standout cars from the JPS era include the Lotus 93T John Player Special, which featured Renault's powerful 1.5-liter turbo engine in 1983, and the John Player Special Lotus-Renault 98T, driven by the legendary Ayrton Senna. These cars not only looked stunning in their black and gold livery but also delivered impressive results on the track, further enhancing the legacy of the JPS era. The Jordan 198, with its striking "hornet" livery, buzzed its way into the hearts of Formula One fans during the 1998 season. The bright yellow car, adorned with a fierce hornet's head on the nosecone and wings streaking down the sides, was a visual delight on the grid. Despite a challenging start to the season, with 1996 World Champion Damon Hill struggling to tame the car's understeer and the Mugen Honda engine lacking power, the Jordan team refused to give up. The arrival of Mike Gascoyne marked a turning point, as he set about reworking the car's suspension, front wing, and floor. Coupled with Mugen's engine developments and Goodyear's tireless work on the tyres, the 198 underwent a remarkable transformation. The second half of the season saw Jordan's fortunes soar, with the team scoring points in all but one race. The crowning moment came at the Belgian Grand Prix, where Hill claimed Jordan's maiden Formula One victory, with teammate Ralf Schumacher following closely in second place. Schumacher's third-place finish in Italy and Hill's consistent fourth-place results further solidified the team's resurgence. The Renault R25, a masterpiece of engineering and design, will forever be remembered as the car that propelled Fernando Alonso to his first World Championship title in 2005, breaking Michael Schumacher's stranglehold on the sport. With its sleek lines and distinctive blue and yellow livery, the R25 was a force to be reckoned with on the grid. Under the guidance of Pat Symonds and the design team led by Bob Bell, James Allison, Tim Densham, and Dino Toso, the R25 proved to be a formidable challenger to the McLaren MP4-20. While the McLaren may have had the edge in terms of outright speed, the R25's reliability and consistency ultimately triumphed, with Alonso and teammate Giancarlo Fisichella racking up an impressive eight wins and 15 podiums throughout the season. The R25's success not only marked the end of an era as the last V10-powered car to win the championship but also brought Renault and Michelin back to the forefront of Formula One, delivering the French manufacturer's first Constructors' Championship since 1995 and Michelin's first title since its return to the sport. Its unique 'Mild Seven' livery, adorned with flowers, tribal designs, and the enigmatic phrase "Team Spirit" in place of tobacco advertising, only added to the car's allure and mystique. The McLaren MP4/4, a masterpiece of engineering and design, stands as one of the most dominant and successful Formula One cars in the history of the sport. Born from the partnership between McLaren and Honda, the MP4/4 was powered by Honda's mighty RA168E 1.5-litre V6-turbo engine, a powerplant that had already proven its worth by helping secure the Constructors' Championships in 1986 and 1987. Under the guidance of American engineer Steve Nichols, who was given full responsibility for the chassis design by Ron Dennis, and with the support of Technical Director Gordon Murray, the MP4/4 took shape. The car's innovative design, featuring a sleek, low profile, required drivers Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna to adopt a more reclined driving position. The MP4/4's performance on the track was nothing short of extraordinary. The car won an astonishing 15 out of 16 races in the 1988 season, claiming pole position in all but one event. The team's dominance was so complete that they amassed nearly three times as many points as their closest rivals, Ferrari, en route to securing the Constructors' Championship. The car's success was not just a result of its advanced aerodynamics and powerful engine, but also the incredible talent behind the wheel. The legendary duo of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, two of the greatest drivers in Formula One history, pushed the MP4/4 to its limits and beyond, showcasing the car's true potential. For over three decades, the MP4/4 held the record for the highest win rate in a single season. It was only in 2023 that the Red Bull Racing RB19, also powered by a Honda V6 turbocharged engine, managed to surpass this achievement. However, the MP4/4 still holds the record for the highest percentage of laps led in a season, with an astounding 97.3% (1,003 out of 1,031 laps). The McLaren MP4/4 will forever be remembered as a true icon of Formula One, a car that redefined the boundaries of what was possible on the racetrack.
